NEOGEN Real Flower Calendula Cleansing Water Review

Neogen Calendula Cleansing Water

WELCOME TO FARRELLIA!

HIYA! MY NAME IS SHALEEN- I AM A 22 YEAR OLD FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE WORLD WITH A SKINCARE OBSESSION.

In the sequel to the Shaleen is Lazy series, I introduce the new and improved method of taking off of makeup when you get home. You can read about my OG method in my SKINFOOD Rice wipes here. I thought I would invest a little more, and try out the Neogen Cleansing Water for my newest lazy endeavours.

   TL;DR:

  • Has REAL calendula leaf- bits at the bottom.
  • Very gentle.
  • Moderately priced/ bordering a little expensive for some.
  • Does a good job of removing most of your makeup.
  • p.H of 6.

The Product:

The NEOGEN Calendula Real Flower Cleansing Water is a 300ml dermatologically tested "soothing bio-cleanser." It is a one-step skincare product, similar to micellar water but boasts natural ingredients. Real calendula petals are found swirling in the bottle, characteristic of Neogen's cleansers and as a result it does have a fresh/ floral scent. There is a built in filter as to stop the petal sediment from coming out alongside the water.

According to the NEOGEN website: the product is a moisture type, no-wash, deep cleansing water that delivers calming and soothing benefits while delivering rapid and effective cleansing to the skin. Real Calendula petals, extracts and natural cleansing agents remove makeup, dirt, and impurities from your pores while providing skin calming and soothing benefits. Feel the effective and fresh cleansing benefits delivered by the real Calendula petals with every use.

  • I would recommend this to anyone looking for a super easy and convenient way to take your makeup off when you get home or to refresh your skin after the gym. I wouldn't recommend using this as your only makeup remover because it won't fully remove your makeup or SPF.

THE REVIEW:

The main reason I use the Neogen Calendula Cleansing Water is for sake of easy and laziness on my behalf. After a long day at work or university, I am strongly dislike, (borderline vehemently), the feeling of makeup on my face when I get home. However, it is normally too early to shower so I began cleansing my face when I got home and then following up with my normal oil makeup remover later that night. These days, I also work out a lot so it has proven very helpful in removing makeup before going to the gym.

  • I do think it's important to to point out that if I wore makeup that day I will always do an oil cleanser before showering that night. I do not substitute cleansing water for oil cleansers because they do not work as well for me. But that's a personal choice.

One of the biggest features of this cleanser is its gentleness, making it ideal for those with a sensitive skin type. It is non-drying and soothing however it does not completely remove all of my makeup.

I particularly like to use this cleanser to remove my eye makeup. I don't like the blurriness that is part and parcel of oil cleansers so the water cleansers are my go to for my eyes. This cleansing water is effective at quickly cleansing your face and I enjoy it for that aspect. In saying that, it is nothing super special and I will probably be trying another cleansing water after I finish this one.

Pricing:

This borders the expensive side, and will likely be too expensive for a number of people, especially if you were to only use it as an addition step in your routine. It retails at 25NZD and 22USD- if you were to use this every night you could finish this product quite quickly.

INGREDIENTS: WHAT THEY'RE FOR AND WHAT THEY DO:

The biggest ingredient in this cleanser, is of course the calendula petals. Calendula is useful in reducing inflammation, pain and swelling. Calendula promotes the fast healing and regenerative process that helps keep your skin looking tip top. It has long been used to treat sore throats and mouth, menstrual cramps, cancer, and stomach and duodenal ulcers which makes it a pretty amazing plant.

One of my favourite ingredients EVER is also in this cleanser: centella asiatica. Centella (or gotu kola) is one of the best ingredients for healing, making it ideal for acne sufferers. Traditionally it was used to help increase circulation as well as to treat skin damage. It is also particularly effective at helping to fight the signs of aging. I love it because it is always super soothing and calming and is my go-to when my skin needs relief.
