iUNIK Propolis Vitamin Synergy Serum & Tea Tree Relief Serum Review

iUNIK Propolis Tea Tree

Hiya! My name is Shaleen- I am a 22 year old from the bottom of the world with a skincare obsession.

iUNIK was kind enough to send me these two products in exchange for my honest review. And if y'all have read my Face Shop Rice Cleanser review you will know that even if a product is a cult favourite I'm not gonna give it a good review if I don't like it. However I was very pleasantly surprised to find that I absolutely love one of these products! Read on to find out which one.

iUNIK is a Korean skincare brand that has just stepped out onto the beauty scene in recent months. So when they contacted me and asked if I would like to try out some of their products in exchange for a truthful review, I was super keen! The branding of iUNIK is all about the use of natural ingredients and by mixing 'R&D' to restore the skin.

Honest ingredients at honest prices is super important to the brands image and I am ALL about honest pricing. Sometimes the cost of skincare can get out of hand so I love it when a company aims to produce skincare that works and is 100% worth it's price.

Propolis Vitamin Synergy Serum:

The Propolis Vitamin Synergy Serum comes in a 50ml glass bottle with an eyedropper lid. It retails for 20NZD, 14USD which is such a good price considering this is a serum. These days, skincare (serums in particular) are pretty pricy and seem to continue getting more expensive. So the selling point for this serum is huge. Most importantly, this serum boasts 70% Propolis Extract and 12% Hippophae Rhamnoides Fruit Extract. 70% propolis is HUGE and one of the biggest percentages of propolis that I have seen in a skincare product to date. There is a white and yellow label across the bottle that reads: Powerful calming. Nourishing and Brightening. Whitening and Wrinkle Care.

The website (unique4u) the sells the brand asks the following questions about your skin:

Are you worried about sensitive and delicate skin? (Affirmative).
Does your skin lack vitality and need nutrition? (It does, yes.)
Do you want a bright and clear skin tone? (Who doesn't).

The liquid is an unusual consistency- it is not runny, but it it is not thick either. Put it this way, the liquid doesn't run off your fingers like a lot of other serums. It is super light-weight and absorbs into your skin very quickly. This makes it easy to apply, easy to layer and means you don't have to wait too long before going onto your next step. It is a slightly orange colour. The smell is very propolisy- I'm not sure how to describe it otherwise. You only need one dropper full of product to apply to your face so it will last you a decent length of time~

My experience with this serum has been absolutely wonderful. I'm a big fan of skincare that heals- they are always the products that I find myself gravitating towards. I use snail mucin religiously on my face so I was more than happy to start applying another stellar healer to the mix. I find that using this serum with my COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Power Essence is a match made in heaven. The iUNIK propolis serum has noticeably helped heal my blemishes and I am convinced that it is speeding up the process. Obviously, healing acne doesn't happen in a day, but since I have started using this serum morning and night, I have noticed that a blemish generally heals and recovers in just a few days. The fact that this serum is super easy to layer makes using it in combination with my snail essence an easy task. I had never really used a propolis product prior to this one, but now I understand why it is so revered in skincare.  This serum has a whooping 70% propolis extract which is seriously impressive.

  • Right lets get onto what makes this serum truly stellar and explain propolis. Propolis or 'bee glue' (if that helps you wrap your head around it better) is a mixture that honey bees produce by mixing salvia and beeswax with the exudate gathered from lots of nice natural sources such as tree buds, sap flows and other botanical things. Honeys bees are busy dipping themselves into all kinds of wonderful flowers so this news shouldn't be too surprising. It is well known for its nourishing, anti-septic, calming and restorative properties that work well even on sensitive skin. It is non-comedogenic (non-clogging) and an emollient so it keeps your skin feeling nice and protected. In sum, it's a seriously amazing natural source for treating acne. Such a high percentage of propolis in the iUNIK serum is definitely behind why this product works so nicely.

Tea Tree Relief Serum:

The Tea Tree Relief Serum comes in a very similar, almost identical glass bottle as the propolis serum. It also contains 50ml worth of liquid. It retails for 21NZD, 15.50USD, so slightly more expensive but only by 50c. As the name suggests, this serum focuses entirely on tea tree with a 67% Tea Tree Leaf Water and 19.5% Centella Asiatica Leaf Water. The use of water extracts are likely the reason behind the thin consistency of the relief serum. There is a white and green label across it that reads: Powerful relief. Naturally Moisturising. Soothing Care. Whitening and Wrinkle Care.

The website (unique4u) the sells the brand asks the following questions about your skin:

Are you irritated by skin troubles? (YES).

The type of skin is oily, do you have inner dry? (not sure what the last part means but I do have oily skin).
Are you worried about the double trace. (not sure about this either).

This serum is very thin and runny but also absorbs completely into the skin.  The liquid looks light green in the bottle but I think that's an optical illusion because the liquid on your hands is clear. It is scentless, which is surprising given tea-tree is usually pretty overpowering- though this may have to do with leaf water iUNIK have used. This is a big perk as many people hate the smell of tea-tree = so if you want to use tea-tree but hate the scent then this serum is your guy!! I tend to use just less than an eye dropper and for the most part, only apply it directly onto my blemishes. However you can definitely use it all over!

My experience with the tea-tree serum has been an enjoyable one albeit not as mind-blowing as the propolis. One of my favourite things about this product is the fact that it is so light weight and non-oily which is ideal for the oily skin types iUNIK is targeting with this one. I don't like having a huge skincare line up- my skin doesn't react well to too many layers. But this serum is the perfect little add on to your routine when you are suffering from a breakout. It helps to calm down my skin and ease the pain a little bit from the painful hormonal types. Whilst it is not a holy grail for me, it is hard to go wrong with a product like this. Tea-tree is such a stellar ingredient that I also try to have it in my routine- this serum makes it easy to do that~

  • If you didn't know, Tea-Tree is one of the best ingredients for oily skin which is why this serum is targeted towards that skin type. It is big for its anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial abilities which make it ideal for helping to tackle acne. The fact that it also contains Centella Asiatic Leaf Water is a big perk, if you didn't know it is one of my favourite skincare ingredients. Centella helps to calm down the skin and has really amazing healing qualities which make it quite similar to propolis.

Overall Conclusion:

My experience with iUNIK has been a very, very good one. Being a new brand, I wasn't too sure what to expect but I am beyond happy with the results- particularly with the Propolis Vitamin Synergy Serum. On top of the fact that they try to use natural and non-harmful ingredients, they also sell their skincare for a really affordable price. These days, skincare prices seem to be going up and up so it is refreshing to see well-priced products. I would definitely recommend trying out this brand- they've got a big range of products of such a new company.
