COSRX Centella Blemish Cream Review
The Centella Blemish Cream is the real MVP. I'm not sure what I would even do without this little guy anymore.
- Helps reduce the size of those painful blind pimples.
- Amazingly helpful for hormonal acne.
- Ideal for using overnight.
- Best used when dabbed (not rubbed into) spots.
- Smells herbal.
- Not drying like most spot treatments.
- All naturale ingredients.
- Somewhat expensive but will last months.
The COSRX Centella Blemish Cream is an acne treatment designed to help reduce the irritation and redness of those super painful blind pimples that nobody likes. Nobody likes acne anyway but these are that little bit worse yknow? This is another one of those products that has garnered a lot of attention in the last year for its effectiveness in treating acne. It's also by COSRX which is one of the most reliable Korean brands ever.
The cream comes in a 30ml round tub. The tub is a frosty white with lime green branding. The cream is milky white and is a thick creamy (funny that) consistency.
"Centella Blemish Cream heals blemishes and acne scar quickly. An advanced formula that's clinically proven to reduce acne while minimising the appearance of scar."
The main ingredient is Centella Asiatica which is one of my absolute FAVOURITE skincare ingredients ever. It has a herbal scent but it is not very strong.
- I would recommend the Centella Blemish Cream to anybody that suffers with acne, including sensitive skin types. It works on all skin types and is really fab at reducing irritation and redness.
HOW TO USE:
This is my preferred method of using the cream.
- Use when you are staying home or overnight because you're not going to rub it in.
- It leaves a whitecast when you rub it in anyway.
- Cleanse, tone, moisturise (basically do your entire routine).
- Grab a cotton tip/Q tip and dab the cream directly onto blemishes.
- Do not rub in- let it sit on the skin.
- Go to bed.
I love this cream so much. I've had it for around 6 months now and started really noticing a difference when I began using it in the way I mentioned above. Before, I was rubbing it directly into the spots which could be a pretty sore experience when they were blind pimples. When I was using this method I wasn't noticing anything drastic differences in redness or tenderness. A few weeks ago, I started dabbing the cream onto the blemishes with a cotton tip and leaving it to sit on there. This means that I can only use the treatment when I'm staying at home or overnight but honestly the cream leaves a pretty noticeable white cast even when you rub it in. When I started doing this I noticed *such* a difference and finally understood why people had been calling this the MVP cream.
I apply this cream once or twice a day and overnight, the blind pimple in question becomes immediately less tender. It reduces redness and swelling and after a few days the pimple becomes unnoticeable. As you probably know, hormonal acne doesn't go away overnight and this cream won't make it do that either. But it really reduces the irritation, redness, swelling, tenderness and soreness. Previously, before I started using this cream, my hormonal acne would take over a week to start to reduce in size but when I use this cream, the pimple is almost entirely gone within (depending on the severity) 5 days. Unfortunately, I haven't found this cream to be effective on reducing previous acne scarring. It is effective on reducing the scarring of the active pimples you apply it on, but it does not do much for hyper pigmentation.
The texture is quite thick but it is not oily and does not feel heavy on your skin. It has a herbal scent, particularly in the tub, but it is not noticeable when it is on your skin.
The price for the cream is on the higher side for a drugstore (probably not the right word) brand. COSRX is normally pretty average in terms of its pricing but some may view this cream as being on the higher side considering its 30ml weight. It costs approximately 28NZD,20USD. If you use my method of cotton tip dabbing it will last you for months, so there's that. It is also the most effective spot treatment I have come across in years which I think makes it worth its price.
INGREDIENTS: WHAT THEY'RE FOR AND WHAT THEY DO:
If you read my reviews regularly, then you will know that I am a HUGE fan of Centella Asiatica which is the star ingredient in this cream. Centella (or gotu kola) is one of the best ingredients for healing, making it ideal for acne sufferers. Traditionally it was used to help increase circulation as well as to treat skin damage. It is also particularly effective at helping to fight the signs of aging. I love it because it is always super soothing and calming and is my go-to when my skin needs relief.
- Another one of my favourite skincare products with centella is the Zymogen Centella Ferment Cream. You can read my review about it here.
The only other ingredient in the cream worth mentioning are tea tree oil which has great antibacterial properties but it is fairly low on the list.
